National Development Planning Agency (Badan Perencanaan dan Pembangunan Nasional/Bappenas) through The Directorate of Energy, Minerals and Mining and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) retained Indonesian Institute for Energy Economics (IIEE) to improve the modeling as an input to support background study for the Mid-term National Development Plan: Years 2015 to 2019. There were two kinds of modeling which developed by IIEE, namely Indonesian Integrated Energy, Economic and Environmental Modeling (I2E3M) and Indonesian Energy Security & Clean Modeling (IESCEM). I2E3M integrates the supply and demand side of the energy sector in Indonesia based on economic variables and their impact on the environment. I2E3M structure uses a modular approach which consists of modules as follows: (i) Four Energy supply modules (oil and gas, coal, transmission and distribution of oil and gas, new and renewable energy); (ii) Four Demand modules (household, commercial, industry and transportation); (iii) International energy activities module; (iv) Macroeconomic module; (v) Environmental module; (vi) 2 Conversion modules (electricity and refinery).
