IIEE Takes Part in Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Awareness Raising in Educational Sector (including Energy Saving Competition) in Central Java Area
Indonesian Institute for Energy Economics (IIEE) supported by Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Environmental Support Programme Phase 3 (ESP3), Government of West Java Province, and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held energy conservation awareness and capacity building in Semarang, Surakarta, and Magelang. This event was launched on February 9, 2017 at Santika Hotel Semarang. The launching was opened by Mr. Agung Feinuddin from Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Dirjen EBTKE), Mr. Ian Rowland from Environmental Support Programme Phase 3 (ESP3), and Dr. Hakimul Batih from IIEE. Teachers from 10 different high schools are attending as participants. After that, IIEE team conducted Training for Trainers (ToT) for teachers or called Energy Managers (EMs).
The next two days, IIEE team visited SMA Negeri 11 Semarang to conduct training for Energy Saving Ambassadors (ESAs) from SMAN 5 Semarang, SMAN 6 Semarang, SMA Kesatrian 1 Semarang, and SMAN 11 Semarang. In total, 40 students were trained about the meaning of energy efficiency, the importance of energy efficiency and why they should affect change to conserve the energy. Students were enthusiastic and the event run interactively.
The next week, IIEE team visited SMA Negeri 4 Magelang to conduct training ESAs from SMAN 3 Magelang, SMAN 4 Magelang, and SMAN 2 Magelang, followed by visitation to SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta for ESAs from SMAN 4 Surakarta, SMAN 6 Surakarta, and SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. During these days, IIEE team had lessons learned from previous experiences in Semarang. Thus, the two days of training for each city could be held even enthusiastically and productively.
Training materials delivered by IIEE trainers is not merely about technical knowledge of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation, but also to know how students can change their behavior by considering their team’s personality, environment, and existing situation. Each student is expected to identify his/her own strength and weakness in order to make change of behavior effectively. Of course, it is not an easy way to change the behavior of one individual, also not to consider people’s behavior in their schools and homes. But overall, participants in the training room are optimistic that they can actually take a part in promoting sustainable development by using and conserving energy efficiently.
